The Orland Fire Protection District will host a special meeting, followed by a committee of the whole meeting beginning at 9:45 a.m. Thursday at the Training Facility. New board of trustees members Chris Evoy and Blair Rhode ran an election campaign in April vowing to cut the district’s spending. Evoy and Rhode, who ran with the Fiscal Voices for Orland party, believe the $30.1 million budget for 2011 is much too high. Rhode said many area departments run with budgets of $6 million. We’re a bigger district than some of the others but are we 600 percent larger than Tinley Park?” Rhode said. “Are we 600 percent larger than Mokena? It’s time to look at that.” Evoy said he would get the ball rolling Thursday. “What I’m going to call for is a forensic audit,” Evoy said. “We’ll have professionals go in an tell you ‘yes,’ ‘no,’ or ‘maybe.’ It’s a line-item audit. They go everything – every expenditure — even what you pay for toilet paper. I’ll propose it – whether or not they approve it, we’ll see.” Originally, the committee of the whole meeting was scheduled for Wednesday but it was postponed because some of the members had conflicts. |
