Gorman OPPOSES more
regulations on Law Abiding Citizens
Thank you for contacting my office with your opinions regarding
the "Safe Streets / Weapons Registration Ordinance"
and the "Deadly Weapons Dealers Ordinance."
These ordinances were both referred to the Legislation, Intergovernmental
and Veterans Relations Committee on December 4, 2007. Currently,
no committee hearings have been called on these two ordinances.
When these two ordinances finally come to the Board for a vote,
I will stand where I always have...on the side of law abiding
citizens. Much of the content of these ordinances is already
covered by Federal and State regulation and need not be covered
by the County. The Sheriff and other local law enforcement officials
are already required to enforce existing laws.
These ordinances will also force large sporting goods retailers
out of Cook County in favor of the collar counties thus costing
the County of Cook much needed sales tax revenues.
I simply cannot support gun control legislation which has no
hope or chance of preventing any gun related violence.
In the future, I will send you updates as to the status of
these ordinances.
Again, thank you for contacting me with your concerns.
Elizabeth "Liz" Doody Gorman
