GORMAN INITIATIVE TO HELP VICTIMS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING PASSES COUNTY BOARD

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the Chicago Metro area ranks fourth out of the top 20 human trafficking jurisdictions.

A recent rash of trafficking incidents has brought light to the issue in Cook County.

One of the reasons it is difficult to locate these victims is because of the ease of obtaining "drop cell phones" from gas stations, cell phone outlets and even from the cell phone companies themselves.

Commissioner Gorman sponsored and passed a resolution requesting the Illinois General Assembly and the United States Congress to pass legislation requiring purchasers of these types of phones to produce identification prior to being allowed to obtain the phone.
